The best month for trekking Mount Kilimanjaro is January, February, and September when the weather is a little bit warmer, the skies are more evident, and the likelihood of rain is less. June, July, and August are also the best climbing times, but with close consideration of the mountain weather, it tends to be very cold as this is the beginning of the ‘winter’ season in Tanzania.

During rainy seasons from March through early June and November or December here in Tanzania, especially in the Kilimanjaro region, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is demanding and challenging. However, it is still possible with proper preparation and following instructions and recommendations from a professional guide.

The prime time to ascend to Kilimanjaro’s summit is during the full moon, as the night brightness helps to improve trail visibility, and the moon above your head makes for a breathtaking moment as you stand atop Mount Kilimanjaro peak and The Roof of Africa.
